YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan has confirmed the POLITICO report that the Armenian Ambassador to Belgium Tigran Balayan received death threats from the Azeri Ambassador Vaqif Sadiqov during a reception in the Turkish embassy.

“According to our information insults and threats were made during the reception, and we have notified the Belgian side, as well as the EU about this. I think an investigation is underway on this matter. There’s been no response yet,” Hovhannisyan told reporters.

POLITICO reported that the Armenian Embassy has lodged a formal protest with other diplomatic missions in Brussels after Ambassador Balayan received death threats from his Azerbaijani counterpart.

A letter circulated to envoys stated that Balayan was “verbally attacked and intimidated” by Azerbaijani Ambassador Vaqif Sadiqov, who “voiced explicit threats against his life.”

Sadiqov has denied the accusation.
