Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project can fundamentally change the situation in entire region, says EEC minister

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. As a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) Armenia has great potential and is actively participating in integration processes, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Minister of Industry and Agro-industrial Complex Gohar Barseghyan has said.

Speaking to Armenpress, Barseghyan highlighted the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project in this context, emphasizing that its implementation can fundamentally change the situation in the entire region.

“In the beginning of the year we received an application from the current chairman of the Supreme Council, the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, with special emphasis on the priority directions for the country. First of all I’d like to emphasize the important element of economic cooperation, the transport-logistical sector for Armenia. In this regard, including within the framework of the EEU, it is extremely important to focus on modernization of transport infrastructures and development of transit potential, or ensuring effective integration with regional and global trends. In this direction I’d like to mention the Crossroads of Peace project presented by the Armenian government, and that its implementation can fundamentally change the situation in the entire region,” Barseghyan said.

The EEC minister also highlighted the development of common markets of energy resources without discriminatory principles. This direction, according to Barseghyan, should become the basis for ensuring equal conditions of economic activity for all countries, which is also a priority direction for Armenia within the union.

The third direction is to ensure stable access to high-quality and safe food products for the population with the principle of primary supply.

“When we are talking about the imperative of continuing economic cooperation for ensuring universal welfare, it is necessary to take into consideration the role and significance of digitization. This is also a priority direction for Armenia, because Armenia has great potential here. In my opinion numerous initiatives can be implemented within the union. Regrettably, the low level of awareness among the wide public circle about our activities in some directions is a problem. Sometimes citizens are unaware of the opportunities provided by the EEU, thus the EEC must work jointly with the parties to raise awareness.” As an example, the minister noted the recent launch of the industrial cooperation mechanism, which is a “unique opportunity to impact economic development.”
