YEREVAN, OCTOBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has presented the Crossroads of Peace project during the Outreach/BRICS+ format of the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.
Pashinyan said in his speech that the Crossroads of Peace project matches with the topic of the summit “BRICS and the Global South, Building a Better World Together.”
“The essence of the project is the following, Armenia is ready and keen to organize passage through its territory of vehicles, cargo, passengers, pipelines and cables. This is the shortest road between the Black Sea and the Persian Gulf, through the territories of Iran, Armenia and Georgia, the north-south direction, and it is also the shortest road between the Caspian Sea and the Sea of Marmara, through the territories of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, the east-west direction. The east-west direction can naturally be used also for transportation and connection between the Republic of Azerbaijan [proper] and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Taking into account this approach, we have offered Azerbaijan simplified mechanisms of border and customs control procedures, as well as additional security measures, by taking into account the full respect for the two countries’ jurisdiction and sovereignty,” Pashinyan said.
He reiterated that Armenia will fully ensure the security of the passage of persons, vehicles, cargo and resources through its territory. “This is our desire and obligation, and we guarantee it, and will always guarantee it. All statements alleging that Armenia agreed to a third country’s participation in ensuring security of connections in its sovereign territory, or that some document envisages this, are false,” Pashinyan added.
He also commented on the border delimitation regulation signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan said that after taking effect the regulation will intensify the delimitation process.
He stressed that the Armenian Constitutional Court’s decision about the document, which has since been ratified by the parliament, completely dispelled all concerns and debunked the allegations about territorial claims in the Armenian constitution against its neighbors, stipulating that such accusations are groundless and unlawful.
