ASHGABAT, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has said that both Armenia and Türkiye have the same perception in the normalization process that a new phase for the relationship is maturing.

“Here I met with the speaker of the national assembly of Türkiye,” President Khachaturyan told Armenpress journalist Davit Mamyan during his visit to Turkmenistan. “We only had the opportunity for a brief conversation, he was also in a hurry, because he came and left in one day, but the conversation was the same: we talked about living peacefully, opening the borders and establishing diplomatic relations,” President Khachaturyan said, highlighting the fact that the topic of discussions on various levels from both sides is the same. He said that within the state policy everyone has the perception that the Armenia-Türkiye relations are entering a new phase, which is not far in terms of time.

Speaking about normalization, Khachaturyan said both sides don’t miss the chance to meet and discuss normalization.

“This shows that the Armenia-Türkiye normalization of relations can become reality in the foreseeable future, this concerns both the opening of borders and the establishment of diplomatic relations,” President Khachaturyan said, adding that the agreement of the two countries to open the land border for citizens of third countries and diplomatic passport holders requires lesser time. He said that the implementation of this agreement would also be a big progress.

The President said he can’t comment on the recent statement by Turkish transport and infrastructures minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu that “soon there will be developments from the Armenian side” regarding unblocking of connections. The President said that the situation around the unblocking is well known to the public. “There is an objective to unblock the connections, meaning, to give everyone the opportunity to make use of the connections which exist today and the potential which Armenia has, meaning, to make the region accessible not only for Armenia and Azerbaijan, but for all countries and especially for regional countries,” the President said, underscoring that this is the idea of the Crossroads of Peace project presented by the Armenian government.
