Armenian demography strategy could be a good example for the region - UNFPA's Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, ARMENPRESS.  Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Narek Mkrtchyan, met with Florence Bauer, the Director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the meeting focused on the possibilities of expanding bilateral cooperation. They also discussed the potential support for initiatives aimed at addressing demographic challenges.

Minister Mkrtchyan highly appreciated the cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund in implementing various sectoral reforms. In this context, he particularly emphasized the importance of achieving the goals set by the strategy for improving the demographic situation in Armenia from 2024 to 2040, detailing the planned activities toward the four strategic objectives.

According to the source, Florence Bauer also highlighted the effective collaboration with the Ministry in various aspects of the social protection sector. She noted that the Demography Strategy could serve as a good example for the region. Furthermore, she affirmed that the United Nations Population Fund will continue to support the Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in initiatives aimed at addressing demographic challenges.

The Director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund reaffirmed the institution's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at empowering women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

 In this context, she emphasized the need to combine efforts in the fight against gender-based violence and domestic violence, including through legislative reforms, capacity building, and the introduction of new digital tools.
