Armenia, jointly with U.S. Department of Defense, holds unprecedented CBRN response exercise

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 4, ARMENPRESS. As part of countering weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), the authorized personnel of the Armenian state administration system participated in a field training implemented in Armenia jointly with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense and coordinated by the office of the Armenian Security Council.

The purpose of the exercise was to explore Armenia’s capabilities and response mechanisms to the spread of Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats (CBRN defense).

The Security Council Office, in a statement, described the exercise as “unprecedented” in terms of the number of agencies and the geography involved.

10 agencies of the state administration system responsible for CBRN defense response were involved in the exercise.

The exercise involved 6 scenarios of CBRN-related emergency situation prevention and capability evaluation. Some scenarios were held in real conditions while the others were simulated.

The study conducted on the basis of the exercise will enable to comprehensively evaluate the existing situation related to response to CBRN incidents, reveal the strong and weak points, and ultimately strengthen Armenia’s capabilities in responding to CBRN incidents.
