YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Ambassador and Italian city officials have attended the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Armenia in Bari.
The consulate, located at 30 Corso Vittorio Emanuele 30, will cover the entire Apulia (Puglia) region.
The opening ceremony, attended also by Italian legislators, cultural figures and politicians, started with Petruzzelli Theater tenor Rafaele Pastore performing the Armenian and Italian anthems, and prayers and blessings by Don Mario Persano.
Armenian Ambassador to Italy Tsovinar Hambardzumyan, Bari Prefect Francesco Russo, Bari Mayor Vito Leccese, Honorary Consul Dario Ruben Timuryan and others delivered remarks.
All speakers praised the Armenian community of Puglia for its commitment to the values of the Armenian nation. They mentioned the significance of Bari for Armenians in person of poet Hrant Nazaryants.
The New Araks village was also mentioned. Ambassador Hambardzumyan said that the honorary consul’s family hails from the village and arrived in Bari after the Armenian Genocide.
