USAID Democracy Delivers discussion: Pashinyan presents post-revolution reforms, Washington announces additional support

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan participated in the Democracy Delivers discussion organized by USAID in New York City.

USAID Administrator Samantha Power announced at the event that working with Congress, the USAID and the State Department will provide $20 million for Armenia to bolster cyber, border and energy security, and to further strengthen its resilience.

In his speech, PM Pashinyan shared with the audience what democracy has delivered in Armenia after the 2018 revolution: “There is no any doubt in the Armenian society whether the official results of elections reflect the real will of the people. It is an issue that is solved, I am sure there is no way back to the doubts of official results of elections.”

Pashinyan said that now democracy has delivered the opportunity of free economic activities for all. Before the revolution, he said, there were monopolies and restrictions, which have been eliminated.

Another result of democracy, according to Pashinyan, is the opportunity for the society to pose questions, to review stereotypes, discuss the past and current situation and the future. “I believe that the opportunities and the fact that the government adopted the agenda of peace is also a delivery of democracy,” Pashinyan said.

Another result of democracy is the role of women in the society, he added. Women are more active and engaged, he said.
