Avo Khalatyan recognized Best Actor at Yerevan International Short Film Festival for His Leading Role in “The Egg”

YEREVAN, 5 OUGUST, ARMENPRESS. On August 2nd, the closing and awards ceremony of the 7th edition of the Yerevan International Short Film Festival took place. Among the films featured in the national competition was “The Egg” by Vahan Grigoryan. Avo Khalatyan won the Best Actor Award at the festival for his leading role in the “The Egg.”

The award was handed over to the winners by Serge Avedikian, the jury president, Cannes Film Festival award winner, actor, film director, and screenwriter, along with jury members Saté Khachatryan, a stage director and interpreter, and Grish Sardaryan, a novelist.

Avo Khalatyan, an honored artist of the Republic of Armenia and a well-known theater actor, took on his first leading role in cinema with “The Egg.”

In his thank you speech, Avo Khalatyan expressed his gratitude: "My great love has always been theater, but I have discovered a hidden 'mistress'- cinema. Nothing of value emerges without love, faith, and the support of enlightened friends-such as director Vahan Grigoryan and director of photography Suren Tadevosyan- as well as hope that our work will be judged and appreciated by a professional jury. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the jury members, the festival organizers, and, of course, the audience. This award is a significant gift to me."

Vahan Grigoryan, director and screenwriter of “The Egg,” noted: "We had collaborated with Avo before, but this was our first work together in cinema. I am very grateful for his outstanding and dedicated performance. During the shoot, the entire team was impressed by his flexibility, willingness, and, of course, his talent. I am thrilled that Avo's work has been recognized, and I extend my gratitude to the jury members and the festival organizers for this acknowledgment. I heartily congratulate Avo and our team- this success belongs to all of us."

The 7th edition of the Yerevan International Short Film Festival featured 46 films from 20 countries, including Armenia, Russia, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Greece, France, the USA, Hungary, Turkey, Poland, Singapore, Iran, Portugal, and Algeria. Among them, 18 films were in the national competition, and 28 films in the international competition. The Grand Prix for Best Short Film was awarded to “Overflow,” directed by Nahal Dashti from Iran.
