Iranian President-elect highlights development of ties with Armenia

YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Iran’s President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian.

Pezeshkian thanked the Armenian Prime Minister for accepting the invitation to visit Iran. The Iranian President-elect said that Iran attaches importance to the continual development of relations with friendly Armenia in the political, economic and humanitarian areas, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.

Pashinyan thanked Pezeshkian for the warm hospitality and once again congratulated him on his election as president. The Prime Minister underscored that the multifaceted cooperation with Iran is of important significance for Armenia, which is based on mutual respect and understanding.

Pezeshkian, reiterating the previously made high-level agreements, said, “The age-old friendship, historical and cultural close interactions of our two peoples are the basis for further developing the bilateral relations. We are ready to continue our dialogue through joint efforts and further enrich the agenda of bilateral cooperation.”

The Armenian Prime Minister said, “The fact that I am here today shows our commitment to deepen the relations and strengthen cooperation on the highest level between Armenia and Iran.”

PM Pashinyan presented the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project and its principles aimed at the unblocking of regional connections.

The Iranian President-elect attached importance to consistent efforts in the direction of establishing peace and stability in the region.

Pezeshkian said that the preservation of peace in the region is of key importance for Iran and added that Tehran also favors the resolution of all issues through dialogue.

Pashinyan attached importance to the Iranian side’s involvement in the North-South highway, particularly in the construction of the Agarak-Kajaran section. The importance of the ongoing steps for the modernization of the Armenia-Iran land border crossing point was also underscored.

The sides discussed a broad circle of issues concerning the expansion of trade-economic ties, and also touched upon the implementation of new joint projects in healthcare, modern technologies, education, science and culture.

Pezeshkian said that he visited Armenia on a private trip and has warm impressions from the people and the country. The sides attached importance to bilateral high-level mutual visits.
