EU emphasizes cooperation with Armenia in cultural field - Maragos

YEREVAN, JULY 19, ARMENPRESS. The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, stated that the EU pays great attention to cooperation with Armenia in all fields, including cultural cooperation and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, and supports the implementation of relevant projects.

The EU Ambassador to Armenia said during the opening ceremony of the International Congress of Armenology at Matenadaran.

On behalf of the European Union, Ambassador Maragos welcomed the foreign guests participating in the Congress, noting that he was particularly pleased that most of the participants came from the EU member states.

"The European Union pays great attention to cooperation with Armenia, including in the areas of cultural cooperation and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage. Therefore, this Congress holds significant importance as it fosters an environment for collaborative research and helps preserve Armenia’s rich, ancient heritage, which is one of the Congress’s main goals.

The European Union and Armenia cooperate through a very important agreement: the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed in 2017. This agreement covers many areas of cooperation, including culture. It emphasizes intercultural dialogue, cooperation, and diversity, as well as the preservation of Armenia's cultural and historical heritage, which is both a world heritage and a European and Christian heritage,’’ Ambassador Maragos said.

Speaking about the education sector, Maragos noted that the European Union supports the implementation of the national education strategy.

'We have a budget support program of 32 million euros, planned until 2025. This program aims to enhance the competitiveness of Armenian education and students, particularly in terms of fostering a competitive economy and an inclusive society. The European Union also closely cooperates with Armenia in the fields of research and innovation,' the Ambassador emphasized, stressing that the EU is committed to financing and supporting cultural initiatives in Armenia.
