YEREVAN, JULY 8, ARMENPRESS. Official results of the second round of France parliamentary elections show a victory for the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance. The NFP has fallen short of a majority but has still won the largest share of seats – between 177 and 192, France 24 reports, citing estimates.
President Emmanuel Macron's centrist Ensemble alliance came second, winning 168 seats and Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) won 143 seats.
To win an absolute majority in the 577-seat lower house of parliament a party needs 289 seats.
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said on Sunday he will hand his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron on Monday morning, adding he will carry out his functions as long as required.
In May, President Macron dissolved parliament and called a snap election just an hour after his centrist alliance was trounced by the National Rally in European Parliament elections.
