YEREVAN, JUNE 28, ARMENPRESS. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has sent a congratulatory message to the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.

The congratulatory message reads as follows:

"I warmly congratulate you on your election to the high position of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and wish you every success during the implementation of your powers, which require great effort and responsibility.

This year's 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe is accompanied by complex geopolitical challenges in Europe and beyond. In these difficult times, when democracy and human rights are being seriously tested, there is an even greater need for a strong Council of Europe to promote and ensure lasting peace by guaranteeing universal values.

I am confident that during your tenure as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, your efforts will be focused on upholding our fundamental values and principles, and protecting human rights across the Council of Europe's geographic area. This is crucial for the effective functioning of the convention system and enhancing the Council of Europe's role.

I assure you that in this important mission, you can rely on my full personal support and the support of the government of the Republic of Armenia.

Once again, congratulations on your election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe. I look forward to meeting you at the first opportunity and hosting you in Armenia.
