Armenian Economy Minister, US State Department Special Representative discuss issues of trade and economic cooperation

YEREVAN, JUNE 18, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan Tuesday received the US Department of State Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs, Sarah Morgenthau. Deputy Minister Narek Hovakimyan also attended the meeting.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan noted that Armenia highly appreciates the active support of the United States in establishing long-term peace in the region, as well as in preserving Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to the source, Sarah Morgenthau reaffirmed the willingness of the United States to consider new economic opportunities in relations with Armenia and to expand the scope of cooperation. She also expressed support for the restoration of infrastructure damaged by the recent flash floods in Armenia.

The parties discussed Armenia-US trade and economic cooperation, the diversification of Armenia's exports, and the consideration of the American continent as a new export market. They also talked about developing an export strategy for Armenia with the help of USAID, which is currently under active consideration.

Reference was made to the regular event of the Americas Competitiveness Exchange program to be held in the Republic of Armenia this year in autumn which provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate Armenia's economic potential and promote new business ties with North and South America.

According to the ministry, Gevorg Papoyan presented to the delegation the opportunities and principles of the Armenia’s "Crossroads of Peace" project.
