Armenian Foreign Minister meets with European Parliament President in Brussels

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met on November 15 in Brussels with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

As a follow-up to the discussion Metsola had with the Armenian Prime Minister in October, the sides discussed the main directions of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive Partnership Agenda and joint efforts to strengthen it.

Both sides expressed readiness to initiate additional steps in the direction of expanding the partnership between the Armenian Parliament and the European Parliament, the foreign ministry said in a readout.

Commending the principled position, the adopted resolutions of the European Parliament thus far in matters of significant importance for Armenia, FM Mirzoyan stressed the importance of continuous strong support to Armenia’s democracy and the real efforts for establishing peace in the region. Speaking about Armenia’s approaches in this direction, FM Mirzoyan stressed that in case of effective involvement of international partners and Azerbaijan committing to the principles that were reiterated in the Granada statement in October it will be possible to achieve peace in the region. Ruling out the use of force or the threat of force, as well as the implementation of projects such as the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project were highlighted.

The Foreign Minister briefed Metsola on the steps aimed at addressing the needs and rights of over 100,000 refugees who found shelter in Armenia after being forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh after the September 19 Azeri attack, which was preceded by a 10-month long blockade.
