Doctors in Yerevan protest outside ICRC office demanding to evacuate wounded from Nagorno-Karabakh

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. A group of doctors are staging a demonstration outside the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Armenia office in Yerevan, asking the organization to either evacuate the wounded from Nagorno-Karabakh or transport them there in order to provide medical assistance to those in need.

“The doctors have gathered here with a clear demand, that is, to immediately evacuate those wounded in Artsakh, who can’t receive appropriate medical assistance, to Armenia. There are also some doctors who voluntarily want to go to Artsakh. ICRC, don’t forget your mission! Don’t confuse neutrality with indifference and inaction,” said Arega Hovsepyan, one of the organizers of the demonstration.

One of the participants, pediatric orthopaedist Vahe Yavryan, said he was willing to travel to Nagorno-Karabakh to help treat those wounded.

However, he warned that due to the nine-month blockade Nagorno-Karabakh doesn’t have medical supplies and the presence of doctors alone won’t help much.

ICRC representatives then met with a group of the doctors to discuss their requests.
