YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS. Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken by phone with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and has emphasized the importance of ensuring the rights and security of the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Kremlin reported.
According to the readout issued by the Kremlin, Aliyev apologized for the death of Russian peacekeepers as a result of Azeri shelling on September 20 in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The importance of consistently implementing the ceasefire terms was emphasized, highlighting the talks between representatives of Stepanakert and Baku.
“Vladimir Putin underscored the importance of ensuring the rights and security of the Armenian population in Karabakh,” the Kremlin said.
An unspecified number of Russian peacekeepers were killed on September 20 in Nagorno-Karabakh when their vehicle came under Azeri gunfire in the Janyatagh region.
