BTA. Education Ministry and UNICEF to sign Memorandum of Cooperation

YEREVAN, JUNE 30, ARMENPRESS/BTA. The Education Ministry and UNICEF will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation, Education Minister Galin Tsokov and UNICEF Representative to Bulgaria Christina de Bruin agreed on Thursday. The document’s goal is to encourage the deepening of partnership on joint initiatives and projects and to identify new areas of cooperation, the ministry’s press centre said.

"Our team has set itself an ambitious agenda, and the expertise and experience of UNICEF would be very valuable in many areas," Tsokov pointed out and added that there is a lot of untapped potential in their joint work.

Bruin focused on the need to work together to develop the skills and competencies that will make children successful and effective in a rapidly changing world.

Tsokov noted that the development of children's skills is a key priority for the ministry. He stated that cooperation in the field of student self-government, child participation and volunteering are also very important topics on which his Ministry can work together with UNICEF.

The key themes on which UNICEF and the Education Ministry will further collaborate include expanding activities to prevent violence and bullying and creating safe school environments.

UNICEF will also provide technical support for the implementation of the National Skills Strategy, the development of standards and quality frameworks in education, as well as for early childhood care.

The need for flexible solutions to increase the coverage of refugee children in the national pre-school and school system was also discussed. The Education Ministry is working particularly actively with UNICEF to ensure access to education and support for personal development for children and students seeking or granted protection, with a focus on children and students from Ukraine.
