Russian military stationed in Armenia to launch combat training drills involving fighter jets, gunships

YEREVAN, APRIL 3, ARMENPRESS. Russian military aviation units stationed in Armenia as part of the 102nd Military Base of the Southern Military District of the Russian military will hold combat training flights as part of “tests of the winter season training round”, the Ministry of Defense of Russia said Monday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defense said the drills will involve Mig-29 fighter jets and Mi-8MTV-5 and Ka-52 helicopters.
The training flights will be conducted in daytime and nighttime.
Mig-29 pilots will practice “aerial warfare, defense of the airfield territory and aerial target acquisition” and will conduct maneuvers in mountainous regions on various altitudes.
The crews of the Mi-8MTV-5 and Ka-51 gunships will engage mock enemy targets on the ground and will develop partnership with units of the Southern Military District in the Alagyaz and Kamkhud training grounds.
Troops are set to practice search and rescue and medevac operations as well.
