Gegharkunik Governor inspects reconstruction process in towns hit by Azeri strikes during September attack

GAVAR, DECEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Governor of Gegharkunik Province Karen Sargsyan visited the towns of Sotk and Kut in the Vardenis municipality to inspect the restoration of the buildings that were bombarded by Azerbaijani armed forces on September 13-14.

Vardenis Mayor Aharon Khachatryan, Sotk Mayor Sevak Khachatryan and Kut Mayor Grigori Avagyan accompanied the Governor on the visit.

The governor told the residents of Sotk and Kut that the government has already allocated another 20 million drams for the ongoing restoration work.

“We are grateful to all organizations who supported and encouraged us, and provided sufficient resources to restore our destroyed apartments. And we are inspired and happy to return to our homes,” local resident Greta Melkumyan told ARMENPRESS, noting that she doesn’t have any intention to move elsewhere.

As of December 23, the restoration is completed in 55 apartments and still ongoing in 63 other apartments. “This was succeeded at the expense of the 50 million drams allocated by the government during the past three months. Large-scale construction work was implemented also with the resources provided by Tashir Foundation,” the governor said.

Moreover, the International Committee of the Red Cross donated solar water heating systems to 35 families, while the UNDP Sustainable Community provided resources for the renovation of the Kut administrative building and clinic, which were also damaged in the bombardments.
