BTA. Meeting at Foreign Ministry Discusses Human Trafficking Prevention, Punishment, Protection

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS.The joint determination to prevent human trafficking, effectively punish perpetrators and protect victims was discussed at a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between caretaker Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov and Dr. Kari Johnstone, Acting Director and Principal Deputy Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the US Department of State. This was announced by the Foreign Ministry on its website on Friday.

The officials also discussed the possibilities for further strengthening the cooperation between Bulgaria and the US in the field of countering human trafficking.

Minister Milkov briefed the US side on Bulgaria's efforts, highlighting the political will and the fully established legal and administrative framework to counter trafficking in human beings. The specific challenges Bulgaria faces, such as being an external border of the European Union and the proximity to various conflict zones, were also highlighted.
