Parliament adopts new military service option

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. Parliament adopted the bill on creating a new military service option for conscripts willing to continue service as contract servicemembers.

The program is called Homeland Defender.

91 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill, including from the opposition Hayastan faction.

The new program will enable conscripts who have served 6 months of their mandatory service term to voluntarily sign up for a 5-year contract service. Servicemembers will be entitled to a 5,000,000 dram bonus after completing the term.
