BTA. Tourism Minister: Bulgarians to Be 60% of Winter Resort Visitors Countrywide

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS.The upcoming winter tourist season is expected to be good, as some 60% of tourists will be Bulgarians, followed by visitors from the neighbouring Greece and Romania, North Macedonia, and Turkey, the caretaker Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov said in the Bulgarian National Television's morning show on Friday. According to Dimitrov, the season will be between 5 and 10% better than last year, which can be attributed to several factors.

One of them is the good value for money. "At the moment, resorts in Europe are getting very expensive, while we have kept the prices of ski lift passes and the prices of services down," the Minister said.

Dimitrov pointed out that there are a number of events coming up that are bound to boost tourists' interest, such as theFIS Snowboard World Cuphosted by Bansko. The resort wants to go green - electric cars will be bought and a private airport for small planes is being built, he added.

Pamporovo is becoming a destination that operates almost year-round - the hotels work in the summer, so they keep their employees and their quality, Dimitrov said. Borovets is close to Sofia, so many Sofianites go there. "Our winter resorts are developing very well," the Minister concluded.
