BTA. Foreign Ministry: Council of Ministers' Approval of Initial Memorandum for Bulgaria's Accession to OECD Is Great Milestone

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS.In Twitter, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry described the Council of Ministers' approval of the Initial Memorandum assessing the compatibility of Bulgarian legislation with Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) standards, as a great milestone for this country’s accession to OECD. The Ministry also said it is looking forward to the next phases of the process and the upcoming exchanges with the OECD committees.

On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved an Initial Memorandum for Bulgaria's accession to the OECD. The document contains the first self-assessment of the compatibility of Bulgarian legislation, policies and practices, with all OECD legal instruments in force.

After transmission of the Initial Memorandum to the OECD committees, they will start conducting in-depth technical reviews of Bulgaria for their areas of work. After completion of the reviews, Bulgaria must deliver its final position, on the basis of which the OECD Council should decide whether to extend an invitation to Bulgaria to join the Organisation.
