SOFIA, 08.11.2022(BTA).An exhibition dedicated to the miraculous icons and holy relics of the Balkans was opened at Sofia's National Palace of Culture on Monday. The event marked the end of the international conference on the Cyrillic alphabet in Sofia, which was organized by Vice President Iliana Iotova. BTA is a media partner of the forum.
The exhibition is a mobile phototype exposition and it is part of a programme of the State Cultural Institute with the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, organized jointly with the Ivan Dujcev Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies at Sofia University. The event was opened by Snezhana Yoveva, Director of the State Cultural Institute.
The exhibition consists of 24 panels showing churches and monasteries where miraculous icons and holy relics are kept. Some of the photographs are from the archive of the Ivan Dujcev Centre and others are provided by courtesy of the abbots of the Rila Monastery, Bachkovo Monastery, Troyan Monastery and Bigorski Monastery. The exhibition briefly describes the history of each monastery, each miraculous icon and the customs associated with the saints whose relics are kept in those monasteries.
