Tuberculosis incidence rate drops significantly in Armenia

YEREVAN, MARCH 23, ARMENPRESS. The incidence of tuberculosis (per 100,000 people)in Armenia stood at 13,4 as of 2021.
According to Naira Khachatryan, the Head of the National Tuberculosis Programme and Deputy Director of the National Pulmonology Center, the incidence has been dropping during the last 10 years.
In 2011, the incidence rate stood at 56,2.
“The results are satisfactory but this doesn’t mean that we should stop on this. We must continue our programs and raise their effectiveness,” Khachatryan said at a press conference ahead of World Tuberculosis Day.
Mortality rate (per 100,000) also dropped, reaching 0,6 in 2021.
Diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis is free in Armenia.
The Global Fund is providing big support for effectively implementing the national programs.
