YEREVAN, MARCH 14, ARMENPRESS. It’s necessary to understand the nature of Nagorno Karabakh conflict in order to be able to solve it, “Armenpress” reports Defense Minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan told Russian RT TV channel. “The struggle of the people of the Republic of Artsakh is for their self-determination. This struggle contradicts neither the legislation of former Soviet Union nor the current international legal norms. What the people of Nagorno Karabakh voice about are fully within the logical frames of the processes that drew the geopolitical map of the 20th century.  But the people of Artsakh were opposed by military ways and for 4 years the nation located in a vulnerable geographic place had to struggle for its existence. Every day dozens of bombs were thrown on Stepanakert, Shushi and other small towns parallel with air strikes”, “Armenpress” reports Vigen Sargsyan saying.

He added that despite the imbalance of power the people of Artsakh were able to protect their right to self-determination. “It’s already 23 years that a generation of independence grows in Artsakh. These are people who have never lived inside other countries and they perceive their sovereignty as an irrefutable reality”, the Defense Minister said.

The key to Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is the implementation of the right to self-determination by the people of Artsakh. “Despite the fact that Artsakh is not internationally recognized the people of that country were able to prove that even under those conditions it’s possible to create their own security system, judicial system and the democratic institutions of state governance. I think that without taking into account this fact it will be impossible to settle the conflict”, Vigen Sargsyan said.
