Bill on compensation for fallen servicemen is important for all Armenians – says Deputy Speaker
of Parliament

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. The legislative initiative on establishing a special fund for compensating the families of servicemen fallen or became disabled while defending Armenia has a very important significance for Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh and all Armenians, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said during the parliamentary discussion of the bill, reports “Armenpress”.

“First of all, we must separate certain issues and give their responses. Whether they are still a priority for Armenia and Artsakh? The answer is yes. Regardless of economic, social, democratic development trends, one of the major issues of our fatherland remains the national security. And the security issues will remain priority for a long time. We didn’t choose that path, we were obliged to, therefore, we have to do everything to strengthen our security system since without it we cannot speak about economic development”, Sharmazanov said.

He said it’s time everyone must understand that they must think what they can do for the fatherland, rather than the fatherland must do something for them. “Whether the idea of national duty is right? Of course, it is. I think our compatriots from Diaspora must be actively involved in the works of this fund in future”, he said.

Sharmazanov also commented on the rumors about the abuses happened in the army. He said he admits that there are abuses, corruption in the country. “We became aware that a corrupt Minister has been detained in our northern ally country. The elections in US showed that there are serious corruption risks in a democratic country such as US, and every candidate accuses each other on corruption. Do you think this makes us to say that we don’t want to improve the situation, of course, not. However, one should not mix this pure, national idea with corruption”, the Deputy Speaker said.

He said the state budget doesn’t have sufficient resources in order to settle the issue in expense of the budget. “If the state budget had that opportunity, be sure that the 25 years Armenian leadership would do it”, he said.
