US scholar: No more Catholic community in Syria

YEREVAN, APRIL 23, ARMENPRESS. Associate Professor of the Holocaust and Genocide Studies of the New Jersey Stockton University Elisa von Joeden-Forgey speak about the hostilities committed by the “Islamic State” terrorist group in Iraq and Syria and the necessity of preventing them. In her speech Joeden-Forgey stated that genocide is being committed against the Yazidi people and Christian minorities in Iraq and Syria by displacing and killing them. “These communities are very small in Syria and Iraq, and it will be very difficult to restore them after such kind of hostilities. There is a need to conduct serious steps to end this”, “Armenpress” reports, she said.

According to her, “Islamic State” terrorists clearly targeted the Christians and other ethnic groups and massacre them. “They beheaded Yazidi and Christian adult men in Iraq, raped and killed children and women. Today, many of them are in slavery”, US scholar added.

According to her Syrian Catholic community can be already considered eliminated, since some of them were killed, and the others migrated. “Syrian Catholic Archbishop told me that the community is already eliminated since before the Syrian crisis 50.000 Catholics lived in Syria, but now some of them were killed or left Syria”, Joeden-Forgey concluded.
