Nalbandian hopes UN Forum to be a platform for criticizing human rights violations in Azerbaijan

Nalbandian hopes UN Forum to be a platform for criticizing human rights violations in Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, APRIL 22, ARMENPRESS. The holding of the Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations for the preservation of human values in such a country where xenophobia, hate against Armenians and intolerance prosper, creates many questions. “Armenpress” reports, this was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian during the joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Yerevan, on April 22. "How could Armenia participate in a forum that was organized in a country, where human rights are being violated, roughly treated and ignored. We have also stated that we cannot support the consensus on the final declaration of the Forum”, said Edward Nalbandian. According to him, there are some talks which say that several violations would be made in the Charter and they will try to confirm the declaration, however, it will not rise the organization’s reputation.

Minister Nalbandian expressed the hope that the forum will become a platform for criticizing Azerbaijan in violating the basic human rights and values. “Today, when it becomes clear that many countires, international organizations lowered the level of participation in that forum, we can express the hope that those countries, that were unable to reject or to go to that Forum for some reasons, will find enough courage to criticize Azerbaijan's hate against Armenians, the xenophobia, intolerance. They will criticize the atrocities that took place a few kilometers from the venue of the Forum”, Edward Nalbandian added.

We would like to remind that the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had to visit to the region to participate in the Forum of UN Alliance of Civilizations to be held in Baku on April 25, however his visit was delayed. Political scientists connected the postpone of his visit to the statement by the Armenian Foreign Ministry which brings the attention of international community on the Azerbaijani aggressive policy.
