YEREVAN, DECEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan as the number one responsible body for economy announced that the government made all efforts to increase economic growth, the country's defense and people’s welfare. As “Armenpress” reports, he briefly summarized events of the year, highlighting the 3 most important among them.

"Firstly, it is economic growth: Despite the fact that Armenia has not remained aloof from the negative influences of Regional geopolitical new challenges,  growth in economic activity amounted to about 3%, although at the beginning of the year international authoritative organizations and experts expected zero, and in some cases, negative economic growth,” he said.

Armenian PM Hovik Abrahamyan emphasized that such result was recorded even in the case of decline of 500 million dollars of transfers conditioned by the devaluation of ruble in Russia.

Second most important achievement that the Prime Minister stressed is the adoption of constitutional reforms as a result of nationwide voting. "Citizens of Armenia approved the draft constitutional reform in a referendum which will provide the basis for stable growth of the welfare for our country. I especially give significance to the fact that the role of National Assembly becomes big in the state power system due to the constitutional new solutions, creates a truly effective mechanism for conducting parliamentary control enhancing the government’s accountability,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.

According to the head of government, third important achievement is the economic integration of our country. He reminded that in 2015 Armenia became a member of the EAEU. “The dynamics of our exports has become more stable, and expanded its geography. Exports to CIS countries have fallen by about a quarter during the period of 10 months, and the total export - by 2%. Membership to EAEU helped to mitigate this process, and opened a new phase of negotiations with the EU in 2015. I am sure that Armenia will record new successes in 2016. As the number one responsible body for economy I announce that the government made all efforts to increase economic growth, the country's defense and people’s welfare. We will implement this all jointly,” Hovik Abrahamyan concluded.
