Shavarsh Kocharyan: Armenia is a country relatively safe from terrorism

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan considers Armenia a country relatively safe from terrorism. In reply to the question “To which extent is Armenia immune to terrorism”, Kocharyan answered that terrorism threatened the entire world.

“We must clearly distinguish that there is state terrorism and various terrorist acts organized by different networks. We must understand:  if we speak about terrorism by international networks, any state must be vigilant. By all means, Armenia is currently a country relatively safe from terrorism,” “Armenpress” reports, Kocharyan said.

Global Terrorism Index 2015 published by the Institute for Economics and Peace in London rates Armenia as one of the safest countries in the world in terms of potential terrorist threats. Armenia is ranked 116th among 162 countries, where the first country is the most dangerous one.

Armenia’s neighbors in the region are placed as follows: Turkey – 27th, Iran – 39th, Georgia – 71th, Azerbaijan – 93rd. Russia is in the 23rd place and US – 35th.

The top ten of the most dangerous countries looks like this: Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria, India, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Thailand.
