Artsrun Hovhannisyan: Contract soldier dies on border

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. The situation has been tense on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border for several days but it cannot turn into a large-scale war.  “Armenpress” reports that the press secretary of Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armeia, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, said during a press-conference held at the administrative complex of the Defense Ministry that some kind of operations are carried out but here are no clear signs to say that large scale operations can be launched.

“Yesterday the rival again actively shot especially along the entire border of Tavush Province. Shooting continued until morning. Shells and mortars of different calibers and snipers were used. Unfortunately, two civilians were wounded. We also have one victim. Contract soldier Hayk Tevoyan was killed”, Artsrun Hovhannisyan said, adding that the rival was silenced only after the Armenian armed forces retaliated.

“The villages have been damaged but I cannot say to what extent. I have to say that the situation on the border is under control. The rival also had casualties as a result of the tenseness of the previous two days”, Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.

Referring to the information spread by the mass media about evacuation of the citizens of Tavush because of the border situation, Hovhannisyan said that a large training base has been created in Tavush Province in the framework of “Shant-2015” military exercises, hundreds of beds have been brought there and evacuation accommodations have been set up in order to make clear how safe evacuation of civilians must be carried out during wartime.
