Armenpress finds out details from session of Directors’ Board of “Electric
Networks of Armenia”

YEREVAN, JUNE 26, ARMENPRESS. Only questions regarding the company’s management and investments were discussed in the session of Directors’ Board of “Electric Networks of Armenia,” which was held in Moscow. Board director and deputy directors were elected during the session but there was no word of the electricity tariff hike and the demonstrations in Armenia. Armenpress was informed about this by the Press-Secretary of “Electric Networks of Armenia” - Natalia Sarajanyan. Dmitry Volkov was reelected the President of the Board of Directors of “Electric Networks of Armenia” and Dmitry Paluni was elected deputy director. Sarajanyan noted that Yevgeny Bibin is informed about the situation in Armenia. In response to Armenpress’ question whether the protests in Armenia affected the stance of the company, the Press-Secretary of “Electric Networks of Armenia” mentioned that the company had expressed its stance long ago and it remains unchanged.

The new electricity tariff was approved at the session of Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia on June 17.  The electricity price has increased by 6,93 AMD, reaching 48,78 AMD per 1 kWh. Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC had suggested increasing the electricity price by 17 AMD per 1 kWh.

237 citizens protesting against electricity price hike were arrested from Baghramyan Avenue and the territory near the Freedom Square on June 23 for violating the public order. The police used physical force and special measures towards the violators. The police dispersed the demonstration by using water cannon, and detained a number of activists and journalists protesting against the increase in the electricity price. They were later released and the protest currently continues.
