Leaving Armenia out of energy projects violates stability: British expert

YEREVAN, JUNE 20, ARMENPRESS: Armenia has been left out of the energy projects of the South Caucasus, which emerges a sense of insecurity and violates the stability. The opinion belongs to the expert of the King’s College of London Tracy German. Armenpress reports that during the final discussions of the 89th Roth-Rose seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly held in Yerevan, German stressed that the energy security is directly linked to the national security. Oil and gas supply violations could be a threat to the national security.

“It is very important to diversify the energy sources. Having examined the role of the South Caucasus in the Europe’s security, it should be noted that the region is one of the largest gas markets in the world”, - stated Tracy German.

According to her, the European Union has overestimated its energy and foreign policy, trying to diversify the energy resources. Now the EU has serious concerns about the energy sector, which is connected with Russia. According to the expert, the Russian Federation is the EU’s main supplier in the sector of energy, though during the last 10 years it demonstrates an unpredictable behavior. The expert of the King’s College of London Tracy German states that it is the reason why the European Union is trying to find other ways.

“The EU is planning to expand its pipeline through Turkey, via the Adriatic Sea to Italy. Recently they speak about projects of supplying gas from Russia to Turkey through the Black Sea, though everything is still uncertain. It is important that these infrastructures link Europe with the South Caucasus. Moreover they tie also the states and demand cooperation between the states to build a gas pipeline. This system means that thebenefits can be shared with the neighbors, who do not have such resources”,- added Tracy German.
