YEREVAN, 15 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The Turkish historian Taner Akçam, who recognized the Armenian Genocide, represented the current misconceptions and stereotypes inside Turkey against the Armenian Genocide issue.

As “Armenpress” reports, in his article titled "Turkishness and Facing History" published in the Turkish "Taraf" newspaper, the historian expressed conviction that the Turkish society cannot solve any question correctly and fairly, because it has not changed its perceptions and manner of speech on the history.

"The Turkish approaches to the history arise from two false convictions. The first is that the people believe that what happened in 1915 was not a crime, in other words, the problem does not fit into the concept of the genocide. This is a complete misunderstanding.

The second conviction is that saying "something happened in 1915", it means to spatter and accuse Turkey. Those, who say that "the Armenian Genocide occurred", it turns out, that they say "Our ancestors were killers, the Turks are murderers,” Akçam writes and proves that there are still many people, who feel offended, when it is said that "Armenians were killed in 1915", because they think that the accusation is somehow directed against them personally.
