YEREVAN, 13 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The replacement of analog television with digital broadcasting is an international standard, and there has to be a transition sooner or later. This is what Chairman of the National Commission on Television and Radio Gagik Buniatyan mentioned during a press conference at the National Assembly. “The entire population has to be ready for digital broadcasting. It’s not just about providing the socially disadvantaged with devices,” Gagik Buniatyan said.

He emphasized that the national commission is discussing the issue of extending the deadline for digitization from June 1st to the 1st of January of next year. “We believe it wouldn’t be right to make quick decisions. Television companies will continue to work under the current regime, and we’ll discuss the issue in more detail in the fall,” the official mentioned, as “Armenpress” reports.

When asked about the current stage of digitization, Gagik Buniatyan informed that digital broadcasting was provided in the capital city a couple of months ago, and it is being provided through testing in some provinces.
