The year 2015 marks the start of a new phase for recognition of genocides: Sharmazanov

YEREVAN, 2 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov had on March 2 a meeting with students of the Faculties of International Relations and Philosophy and Psychology of Yerevan State University and the European Academy conducting their internships in parliament. As the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, by the proposal of the Deputy Speaker, the meeting was held in a question-and-answer format. During the more than two-hour meeting held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, Eduard Sharmazanov answered the students’ questions that were mainly related to the domestic political situation in Armenia and the processes that have taken place, the constitutional reforms, Armenia’s domestic and foreign policies, electoral processes, taxing and the relations between the government and the opposition, as well as the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the events for the commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and more.

 Touching upon the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly informed that there would be events in Armenia and in other countries. In particular, in the months ahead, the parliaments of several countries (Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Greece) will host photo exhibitions dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. In this context, according to the deputy parliamentary speaker, the year 2015 marks the start of a new phase for recognition of genocides. Recognition of the Armenian Genocide will continue to be one of the major issues on the country’s agenda, and the struggle against denial will continue. Among other issues, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly also indicated the priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy.
