Armenian consulate to open in Iraqi Kurdistan

ERBIL, FEBRUARY 4, ARMENPRESS. Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani hosted the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Iraq Karen Gevorgyan and the delegation he led. The reception took place in the evening of February 3 in capital Erbil. The ways of strengthening ties between the Republic of Armenia and Kurdistan had been discussed at the meeting. As reports “Armenpress” citing the official webpage of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the sides particularly highlighted the development of cultural and social ties between the two nations.

Among other things, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Iraq Karen Gevorgyan announced that Armenia will open a Consulate in Erbil and that by the end of February, there will be two direct flights a week between Erbil and Yerevan.

In turn, Barzani welcomed the initiative, saying that the Government of Kurdistan is willing to provide all the conditions necessary for the realization of those decisions.
