Event dedicated to 25th anniversary of Baku pogrom held in Batumi

YEREVAN, 19 JANUARY, ARMENPRESS. On January 18, Armenia’s Consul General in Batumi Aram Grigoryan, spiritual pastor of the Ajarian-Armenians, Priest Ararat Gumbalyan, as well as members of Batumi’s non-governmental organizations and representatives of the local Armenian community attended a ceremony dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Baku pogrom at the Holy Savior Church of Batumi.

As the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, Armenia’s Consul General in Batumi touched upon the events that took place 25 years ago and emphasized the fact that the massacres of the Armenians of Baku were, in response to the aspirations of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh for self-determination, one of the stages of the policy on ethnic cleansing planned and perpetrated in Artsakh and in the Armenian-populated areas of Azerbaijan. The gathered also paid tribute to the Avetisyans, the innocent victims of the brutal murder that took place in Gyumri on January 12.
