Gyumri crime trial should be conducted in Armenia: Deputy FM

YEREVAN, JANUARY 15, ARMENPRESS: The trial of the crime, committed in Gyumri on January 12, should be conducted in Armenia with the cooperation of the Armenian and Russian legal bodies. Armenpress reports that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan stated about it during the talk with the journalists after the Government’s session.
He said that according to the international agreement, if the serviceman of the Russian military base or the member of his family commits crime outside the base territory, the case will be under the jurisdiction of the Armenian side. If the crime is committed in the serviceman’s dislocation area or it is a military crime, in that case the jurisdiction will belong to the Russian party. “In this case we have two kinds of crime: one is a severe crime connected with murders and the other one is under their jurisdiction: desertion and appearing outside the territory of the military base with a weapon. It means that we should have a bilateral cooperation of legal bodies to complete the trial in the both directions”, - said Kocharyan.
Earlier it was reported that in the framework of the criminal case, filed against Valery Permyakov, who is accused of killing 6 members of one family in Gyumri on January 12, the investigative body of Armenia will conduct all the corresponding actions. “We have not yet questioned the abovementioned person and today our investigators will question him. I do not know and cannot comment on what testimonies he gave by the Russian legislation in the framework of the filed criminal case”, - stated the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan at the press conference, held in Gyumri, Armenpress reports.
Kostanyan assured that all the items, related to the criminal case, are under the jurisdiction of the Armenia’s law enforcement bodies, who will conduct their expertise. “The examination will be assigned by the investigator of the Armenia’s Investigative Committee at the expertise centers of Armenia in accordance with the law. Independent from what actions are being carried out by the Russian side, we continue the investigative actions. Examination will be conducted as well in the territory of the Russian military base #102 in Gyumri. We do not exclude that during the investigation facts will be revealed, based on which the accusation will be changed or supplemented”, - said the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan.
The serviceman of the Russian military base 102 Valery Permyakov, suspected in the assassination of the family of 6 in Armenia’s Gyumri, has given first testimonies and confessed his crime.
The Russian frontier troops arrested the suspect of the assassination in Armenia’s Gyumri, who attempted to cross the Armenian-Turkish border. The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Bayandur village.
