Cetinoglu says approval of proposal to apologize for Genocide is unlikely

YEREVAN, 1 DECEMBER, ARMENPRESS. There are many facts to believe in the sincerity of the draft law that Deputy of Turkey’s Democratic Party of Nations (HDP) Sebahat Tuncel recently submitted, calling on the government to apologize for the Armenian Genocide. This is what famous Turkish publicist, writer Sayit Cetinoglu said in an interview with “ArmenPress”. “There is no doubt that the government is guilty of perpetrating the genocide, but how will we interpret that process? We need to work together, be alert and try to reveal the real culprits, and all those who recognize the Armenian Genocide and have properties that they stole, must definitely return them. It is mandatory for the government and everyone else take their share of responsibility and express a corresponding position on that. Those who want justice have the right to demand all this,” Cetinoglu mentioned.

Likelihood of approval of Tuncel’s proposal

“It’s safe to say that Turkey’s current government is accepted at the local and central levels. Reconciliation is between two people. Erdogan and Öcalan, who is in the role of a captive, are the political actors. These two will have the last word,” Cetinoglu said. According to him, if we add Öcalan’s viewpoint to Erdogan’s words “I’m sorry, but I have even been named an Armenian”, we can easily claim that the proposal isn’t likely to be approved.
