YEREVAN, 24 NOVEMBER, ARMENPRESS. From now on, carpet weaving will gain momentum in the Mets Tagher village of Hadrut, providing villagers with the opportunity to gain profits from not only farming and cattle-raising, but weaving carpets as well. Currently, the factory has ten employees, but plans on expanding. The expansion will create jobs for the villagers and contribute to rural development.
In an interview with “ArmenPress”, Director of the Traditional Carpet Weaving of Mets Tagher (TCMT) LLC Garik Voskanyan emphasized that there was a time when carpet weaving was very popular in Mets Tagher. Until the 1980s, the factory had 60 employees, and the carpets were in high demand in all countries of the former USSR. “The factory is currently collaborating with the Karabakh Carpet Company of Stepanakert. We organize reciprocal visits and exchange of experiences. The employees of the factory are introduced to the art of carpet weaving and acquire skills,” Voskanyan said.
