WCO Secretary General praises Armenian customs service’s efforts

YEREVAN, 21 NOVEMBER, ARMENPRESS. Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya is on an official visit to Armenia on 19-21 November at the invitation of Armenia’s Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan. As the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Armenia reports to “ArmenPress”, taking into consideration the progress made in the customs system over the past couple of years, as well as Armenia’s active participation in the programs of the World Customs Organization and the growing and effective cooperation, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya is visiting Armenia for the second time in order to become familiar with the reforms following his previous visit.

To discuss the perspectives for cooperation in the customs sphere and to sum up the results of the reforms undertaken in the system over the past five years, the WCO Secretary General held private talks with the Minister of Finance and had a meeting with the administration of the customs service. The WCO Secretary General was introduced to the process of implementation of the reforms undertaken by the customs service over the past couple of years. In the frames of the visit, Kunio Mikuriya also participated in the closing ceremony of the 3rd stage of assessment of the WCO Columbus Programme. During a press conference, Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan emphasized that the WCO experts have positively assessed the results.
