Georgian Prime Minister promised to give timely solution to status issues of Javakhk-Armenians

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 13, ARMENPRESS: Within the framework of Georgia visit of the delegation headed by National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan, member of NA Republican Party of Armenia faction Tachat Vardapetyan considers achievement of the agreement on solving status issues of Javakhk-Armenians’ as primary.

In an interview with Armenpress Tachat Vardapetyan said that the Armenians of Javakhk ask to revise the law, which concerns those citizens of Georgia, who have a dual citizenship and are deprived of the Georgian citizenship for that very reason.

“The new law, which strictly limits the stay of people who are not Georgian citizens, has become a problem for the Armenians of Javakhk, who using the right of getting Armenian citizenship, leave for migrant labor with their Armenian passports, mainly Russia and Kazakhstan. Now they are imposed to stay in Georgia 90 days once in six months,” the MP said.

During October 6-8, when the Armenian delegation was in Georgia, a group of Javakhk-Armenians conveyed a letter to National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan asking him to mediate to tackle the issue.

It is mentioned in the letter that the Georgian authorities have created a situation that the men who go to work abroad, get deprived of the right to live with their families, which makes them take their families and leave their birthplace – Javakhk. The Georgian side has promised to settle this issue in a short period of time and to revise the law.

Tachat Vardapetyan stressed that this situation has emerged since Georgia started the European association process. The MP did not agree with the considerations that it is an anti-Armenian manifestation by the Georgiana authorities, reminding that Georgia’s Prime Minister has already promised to give timely solution to the issue.
