Greek President impressed with Armenian Zvartnots Airport

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 1, ARMENPRESS: In the framework of the official visit of the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias to Armenia these days, and before his departure, the Greek President visited Zvartnots International Airport new terminal building, inaugurated in November 2011, where representatives of Corporación América, the company managing the Airport, greeted him and showed him around the departures area.

The representatives of Corporación América, which is one of the companies that along with the Greek constructions firm METKA, is bidding for the concession of 14 Greek regional airports, briefly presented the improvements and level of investment made within the renovation of the airport that serves as the main gateway of Yerevan, the Armenian capital. Corporación América's spokespersons also expressed the company's commitment to invest the best of its expertise and technology in Greek regional airports.
After the tour the representatives of Corporación América told Armenpress that the President of Greece was very much impressed with the Airport, especially the beauty of the building and the colors.
Corporación América signed a 30-year concession agreement for the management of Zvartnots International Airport, Armenia's largest airport, in 2002. As a result of the company's investments, which reached an impressive total of $320 million, Zvartnots has turned into a regional hub, with capacity to handle over 3 million passengers per year, elevating Armenia's standing in the international community and boosting tourism. It is worth noting that in 2012 there was a volume of 1.8 million passengers, representing a growth of 125 percent compared to the 0.8 million passengers the airport had back in 2002. Along the three quarters of 2014 the traffic has increased by more than 30 percent.
Corporación América is the world´s largest private airport operator by number of licenses, currently running 53 airports in South America and Europe and with an annual turnover of about USD 2 billion.
