Tigranakert mystery researching archaeologists expect to open fortress’ main entrance

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS: In the result of the archaeological excavations of the historical city of Tigranakert located near the Maragha Village of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, the second church has been discovered and the works were continued in the Antique and Central districts. Armenpress reports that this was stated by the Head of the Artsakh archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Hamlet Petrosyan.

“This year we have had very important achievements. We excavated 250 meters of the northern fence of the Tigranakert Castle located on the Vankasar slope, which makes Tigranakert a unique monument in Caucasus. We expect to open the main entrance of the fortress, which promises not only interesting architectural solutions but also more detailed information about the structure”, - said Hamlet Petrosyan.
