YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. The United States is for the reconciliation of Armenia and Turkey and in this regard supports Armenia’s initiative and official invitation to the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit Armenia on April 24, 2015 and commemorate the Armenian Genocide victims’ memory. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Armenia John Heffern stated this in a conversation with “Armenpress”.

Among other things, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Armenia John Heffern underscored: “The U.S. strongly supports reconciliation efforts between Armenia and Turkey.  In that regard, we welcome all steps taken by Armenia and Turkey to come to a full, frank, and just acknowledgement of the facts.”

France as well has welcomed this step of Armenia. In a conversation with “Armenpress”, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Armenia Henry Reynaud stated that France welcomes any initiative, which will contribute to the reconciliation and dialogue between Armenia and Turkey on behalf of the regulation of relations between the two countries.

Previously it was reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian attended the ceremony of inauguration of the newly elected President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which was held on August 28.

The Press, Information, and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian had a brief conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the course of the reception held in honor of the heads of delegations, which followed the ceremony. Minister Nalbandian conveyed Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the official invitation of the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to attend the remembrance ceremony of the Armenian Genocide victims, which will be held on April 24, 2015 in Yerevan.
