Armenia will replenish anti-air defense means and special military units

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS: According to the cooperation agreement signed between the Ministries of Defense of Armenia and Russia in 2012 our country will acquire new long-range and precision-guided vehicles, communication and automatic control systems. Armenia will also replenish anti-air defense measures and special military units. The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan informed about it in response to the question of the Deputy of “Republican” faction Naira Karapetyan at the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

“Within the frameworks of the agreement we raised the level of the security of our country to a new quality taking into account the presence of Turkey, and , in general , the existing strategic partnership between Turkey and Azerbaijan,” the Minister of Defense said highlighting at the same time that our country has no concerns regarding security.

According to Seyran Ohanyan, the rival carries out ceasefire violations at night by luminosities, burning wheels, unmannedaircrafts vehicles. The Minister of Defense assured that the Armenian Armed Forces keep the situation under control. “We have no other ways than punishing the rival and we will continue that,” the Minister of Defense underscored.

Previously it was reported that simultaneous attempts of penetration by the Azerbaijani subversive groups were recorded between 23:50 and 00:15 on January 19-20 in the north-eastern (Jraberd) and south-eastern (Korgan) directions of the line of contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing armies. The front units of the Armed Forces of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic noticed the actions of the Azerbaijani subversive groups and started an organized defense in both directions. The rival was thrown back suffering palpable human and material losses. Junior Sergeant Armen L. Hovhannisyan died from the wounds he received during the exchange of fire in the north-eastern direction. On 20 January Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan signed a decree on awarding posthumously NKR Defense Army’s N division's junior sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan with the "For Courage" medal for bravery shown during the defense of the NKR state border. An investigation has been launched to reveal the details of the incident.
