Diamond production increases by 41.2 percent in Armenia

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 3, ARMENPRESS:  The volume of diamond production in the Republic of Armenia has increased by 41.2 percent in 2013 compared with 2012 and amounted to 94 thousand 498 carats. The volume of jewelry production has increased by 15.9 percent and reached 982.7 kilograms. According to the data of the National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia, our country issued 66 thousand 926 carats diamonds and 847.8 kg jewelry products in 2012.

“Armenpress” reports that 5 thousand 627 carats diamonds were produced only in December 2013. The largest buyer of the diamonds exported from Armenia is Belgium.

In 2008, the financial crisis was a serious blow to the diamond production in Armenia. If in the 2000's there was up to 300 million dollars exportation, in the crisis year the Armenian enterprises were in a difficult situation and exportation had significantly decreased.
